Decorating Ideas for a Romantic Bedroom
By Jennifer Metz
Bringing the romance into your bedroom can be an important factor in the longevity of your relationship. It can also help bring two people together and aid in communication. The more quality time couples spend together, the stronger and better the relationship will be. Decorating ideas for a romantic bedroom should involve both partners, and include ideas from each. By making this a joint decorating effort, you can be sure that each of you will find the bedroom a beautiful, loving place to be.
Add an electric fireplace
If you do not have a fireplace in your bedroom, this is a great way to add romance and ambiance. An electric fireplace can be purchased and brought into your bedroom for a couple hundred dollars. This is typically a large piece, so a large amount of space may be required for it. Keep in mind, there are different sizes and shapes available to help meet the needs of different-sized rooms. These can be purchased at most home-improvement stores.
Pillows can add a romantic flair to any room
Satin pillows are a great choice to add romance to the bedroom. Try choosing colors such as red and white. If you cannot afford new pillows, use your existing pillows and re-cover them in some satin fabric that can be purchased at any fabric or department store. The sheen on satin and the soft, smooth texture will help enhance the romantic atmosphere of your bedroom.
Display portraits
Choose a few wedding portraits or portraits of you and your loved one together, and have a print shop enlarge them. Print some 11 by 14 inches and larger, and put them in a hanging frame. Print a couple of them in black and white to add some nostalgia. Hang these around the bed. This is a great way to remind yourselves each day of why you love the person you do, and how special your time together is. With this feeling in the air, romance is sure to bud.
Set a mood with lighting
Keep your bedroom lighting low when possible. Try having a dimmer switch for the light in your bedroom, so you can light up the room brightly in the mornings while getting ready for work, but also be able to dim the lights come evening time. Or, add a bedroom lamp on your end table with a low-wattage light bulb to set the mood. Use an energy efficient "white" bulb to be easy on the eyes, or, if you like, try using a red light bulb to add to the romantic feel and vibe of the bedroom. Another mood-lighting option is to spread candles around the room and light them at the appropriate times.
